ART THAT EXPRESSES

The power of poetry, music, and stories - imagined and interpreted through expressive, vibrant paintings.

Shannon frequently turns to various art forms to further enrich her painting process, resulting in a body of work that is eclectic, raw, and playful.

ART THAT HEALS

KiNTSUGI: THE JAPANESE ART OF REPAIRING BROKEN POTTERY by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum...TREATING BROKEN PIECES AS PART OF THE HISTORY OF THE OBJECT, RATHER THAN SOMETHING TO BE CONCEALED.

I learned about this art form during a time of personal loss and intense grief, and decided to use metallic paints in my art to signify healing, repair, and embracing imperfection.

by shedding light on my “broken pieces”, I honor my journey through loss, grief, and healing, becoming something new anD different, but no less whole.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Meet Shannon

Shannon Sorensen is a self-taught painter and contemporary artist based in central Connecticut. As a lifelong New Englander, her style blends vibrant color and expressive marks, depicting elements of nature, landscapes, and familiar places.

Shannon grew up on a dirt road in the woods, in a small coastal town, and had an overactive imagination. Hours in the woods, exploring fallen tree roots and babbling brooks, inspires her art to play with memories of her childhood, enacting dramatic, theatrical stories from books, movies, poetry, and song.

Painting is a deeply meditative and healing practice for Shannon, as well as a chance to experiment with different processes, including working with acrylics, watercolor, charcoal, ink, digital drawing, clay, and fiber art.

As an elementary school paraeducator with a focus on special education, Shannon is passionate about helping others to see the artistic potential in themselves, and empowering them to explore and enjoy any kind of creativity that sparks their interest. She regularly collaborates with local libraries, schools, organizations and businesses to bring mindful and accessible art-making to the community.

Benefits to Coloring:

▪️Helps release endorphins, increase comfort & relaxation

▪️Soothes your eyes & brain from screen activity

▪️Stimulates your creative brain & playful inner child

▪️Helps improve motor skills & increase confidence

▪️Helps increase focus, and lessen distractions & worry

In March 2020, I began drawing coloring pages to help keep my kids happy and occupied during quarantine. I continued drawing these pages because the process is incredibly soothing for my mental health, and I genuinely enjoy making a tool that can be used by those who are working to manage anxiety, ADHD, or looking for a simple creative outlet.
